2009 12 13 Newbie Riders Club Anniversary Ride

I finally reached and experienced the famed Marilaque twisties last Sunday, December 13. It was a glorious experience, one which I plan to repeat and rediscover for quite some time until I get sick of it. The bends were delicious, the banking moves were exhilarating, and the group was great fun to be with. Jonjett, our spearhead, handled the event operations smoothly and with the consensus of the group always in deep consideration. Napasa-akin ka rin sa wakas, Sierra Madre! Hindi man lang kita maabot sa bisikleta noon.

Modesty aside, bumibilib yata ako lalo sa Honda BeAT. I have a stock 2009 Honda BeAT with a Givi luggage box installed at its back. Mukhang kaya nitong sumabay sa mga 230 cc and 200 cc motorbikes, especially sa traffic hahaha. Kaso nga lang parang bitin ang Honda BeAT sa top speed at 105 kilometers per hour, in my experience, kapag medyo pababa pa iyon or kapag may bwelong maganda - UNLESS nagkakamali ang speedometer nito. So, kapag sustained top speed ang biyahe, iyon yata ang panahon na maiiwan ako on my Honda BeAT ng kasabayan na may larger displacement motorbikes huhuhu. Luckily, there are only very few places here in the Philippines where that could happen. And I make up for it with my rather defensive-aggressive driving style on heavy traffic conditions. I'm very lucky to have had more than 18 years of 4-wheel driving and around 4 year mid-distance non-motorized biking experiences before learning how to drive a motorized bike. That should give me enough insights and wisdom on how to avoid nasty situations and accidents. Safety gear may be crucial, but ultimately, spider-sense driving is the key.

We formally started at Shell Marcos Highway (but actually many of us met at SM Sta Mesa around 5:30 AM), went through the famed Marilaque twisties, then went through Famy. Next was a traversal through Pagsanjan and then all the way to Calamba. We passed by Sta. Rosa where I nearly missed the turn towards Tagaytay. From Tagaytay, it was an easy straight along Aguinaldo Highway and back to each of our respective homes.

The hat is brand new

There was a little old lady standing at a corner one windy day. She was using both hands to keep her hat on while the wind blew her dress up.
